Anybody out there know of some good sites to check out Canadian-style downrigger rods and reels? I'm interested in getting a setup like we used out of Tofino last spring (11' slow action rod with a single-action reel) and I swear I can't find clap on the web. I thought the rods were Lamis but I don't see anything on their site. This setup was a blast to fish with and I think could be a kick in the pants trying to mooch with it too.
Anybody out there selling and old setup?
Thanks, Bruce

G. Loomis sells this type of rod. Cabelas should have the type of reel your looking for.

Thanks Coot, but I've never seen this kind of rod from Loomis. And I'm not really interested in paying Loomis prices for this kind of setup.
There's got to be some Canuks or coffee can fans around here who know what I'm talking about. And yes, I've tried Berry's Bait but they're redoing the site right now...

Hi Bruce: I used one of those rigs for years fishing the saltchuck. we used to get fitted out at the old Army and Navy Shop in Vancouver(long gone now) A 11 foot fiberglass mooching rod and a single action Diawa graphite mooching reel. I would suggest you try Buckys Fishing supplies in Duncan BC ( near the Cowachin river) his url is http://www.buckys-sports.com/fishing/fishing-nf.htm They are likely to have what you want.

Hey Bruce- Check out Berry's Baits: http://www.berrysbait.com/ Good Prices, you can order online or it's a short road trip, I think they are just across the border. Take advantage of the good exchange rate. Shoot me some mail, let's talk! Kev

Hey Bruce, those were fun to use on our trip to Tofino last summer. It took a couple King runnin knuckle busts to get used to it though. Good down rigger rods for sure. I would think the give in the moderate action of the rod would bode well for mooching also. I don't know how limited they would be for weights though. I think they are weight rated as well as line test rated. ...
Are you still going to write up the story of that adventure for the mag?

Bruce, Rainshadow DR1265F, Shimano 2000 Knuckle Buster. Its an awesome set up. I can make you the rod for 170.00. It is the standard equipment for 2002 on that boat you caught the 30 lb'er on. I also use an IST1264F with a level wind on the other side. They have been broken in on Blackmouth, but are awaiting the return of the mighty Chinookie. Those Rainshadows are awesome!

Thanks for all the replies and emails from folks. FP - please shoot me a couple pics via email. RT - Yup, the Tofino story is off to Nick and will be out in the May issue. Next up, Craig AK in June for more King love. Slaminator - I'll need to see these setups of yours in action. Just say when and where. Bruce

Rainshadow offers three models in 10 1/2', 2 piece. DR1264F, DR1265F, and DR1266F. Two models in 11 1/2', 2 piece. DR1386F, and 1387F. All of these are graphite/glass composites, and were designed specifically for BC style downrigger fishing.

These are the only type of rig I use unless i have to cast. I fished all fall in the rivers pulling pluggs with a 10'6" and a knuckle buster, what a blast in the river. I have converted a few others in the process. Outdoor Emp has them also. Good luck !!!!!!!!!
